Center for Economic Education

Programs and Services for Western Kansas Teachers

The Fort Hays State University Center for Economic Education helps teachers (and thousands of students through the multiplier effect) become more familiar with the concepts and language of economics, business, and finance.

The Fort Hays State University Center for Economic Education promotes economic literacy among teachers. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all students graduate from high school with the skills they need to succeed: to be able to think and choose responsibly as producers, consumers, savers, investors, voters and participants in a global society.

Credit Courses and Workshops

The FHSU Center for Economic Education offers a variety of in-service events and credit courses for K-12 teachers. Formats vary from semester-long classes to one-hour workshops and summer programs. Through its affiliation with the Kansas Council on Economic Education, the FHSU Center is able to offer tuition discounts for Kansas certified teachers currently under contract with a Kansas district. Teachers can participate in training for:
-Professional development and continuing education and/or
-Masters level credit in degree or non-degree programs.

Also, through its affiliation with the National Council on Economic Education, the FHSU Center offers discounts on high quality curriculum guides, videos, and CDs designed to enhance economic instruction available for check-out through the FHSU Center lending library.

The FHSU Center staff is available for individualized consultations to help teachers plan lessons and examine resources for integrating economic education into their curriculum while addressing the Kansas State Curriculum Standards.
