FHSU Campus Phones Conversion

Telecommunications Services is currently converting all departments to our new Voice over IP system (VoIP) provided by Nex-Tech. Your phone numbers will not change, but your phones will. There will be a choice as to whether to have a desk phone or you can use what is called a soft phone (headset connected to your computer). The monthly charges to each department should not change, either. Some of the noticeable new features of the system are:

  • Desk phones will have a touch screen display;
  • There is a mobile app that will allow you to make calls from your cell phone and have them appear as if they are coming from your office;
  • Phones will be Bluetooth headset capable;
  • You will have voicemail-to-email; and
  • You will have Call Jump – the ability to transfer a call from your desk phone to your mobile device and remain on the call.

These are just a few of the new capabilities available in the new system. Training will be provided by Nex-Tech. It is our hope that we can have the entire campus switched over to the new system prior to the Winter break. We look forward to providing this new, upgraded service to you. We do ask for a little patience as we go through the transition as there may be some minor difficulties during the migration.
